Student Work Permits

Working Papers

If you are under 18 years of age, you must obtain a work permit before starting a new job per M.G.L. c. 149, 86-89. The following are the steps you should take; please note that the Physician's Certificate of Health is required only for 14 and 15 year-olds.

  1. After you have received a job offer, print the Employment Permit Application and ask the employer to complete and sign the "Promise of Employment" section on the permit application. Please be sure they complete your name and your position.

  2. If you are a student under the age of 16, you must have your physician complete and sign the "Physician's Certificate of Health" section of the permit application.

  3. The student and a parent/guardian must then sign the application.

  4. Once signed by the employer, physician (if under 16), parent/guardian, and student, please bring the signed papers and a birth certificate or valid U.S. passport to the secretary in either the Maroon or Gold offices at Weymouth High School.
The student must be present to sign the permit.

All teens in need of work permits are encouraged to visit Weymouth High School to complete the necessary paperwork. For students attending WHS, the process may be completed during school hours. Weymouth resident students who are not enrolled at WHS and who need a work permit may also visit WHS during school hours (7:30 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.) As an alternative, non-WHS students may also visit the Superintendent's office at 89 Middle Street on weekdays from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
