About Us
At Chapman Middle School, our vision is to foster a positive, respectful, and healthy learning community for our diverse student body. Our students develop meaningful relationships and engage in valuable learning experiences through innovative approaches that promote creativity, critical thinking, confidence, and collaboration. As a result, Chapman students become real-world problem solvers, active citizens, and lifelong learners.
Chapman serves 1,400+ students in grades 6-8 through our core curriculum and our unique exploratory laboratories and electives, preparing each student for Weymouth High School.
About Maria Weston Chapman
Maria Weston Chapman (1806-1885), the namesake of our middle school, was a trailblazing abolitionist, writer, and advocate for equality. Born in Weymouth, she played a pivotal role in the anti-slavery movement as a leader of the Boston Female Anti-Slavery Society and editor of The Liberty Bell, an influential abolitionist publication. Known for her intelligence, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice, Maria worked tirelessly to promote human rights and equality for all. Her legacy inspires our school community to strive for fairness, courage, and positive change in the world.
